INTRODUCING
“It’s tricky striking the balance between fruit sweetness and acid tension, but Kristin and Steve Parkes reckon they’ve cracked it. They were landed with 2ha of viognier in front of a home they’d bought back in 2013 and that catapulted them into the crazy world of winegrowing. The grapes are farmed organically and ‘dry’ meaning without irrigation, and that’s possibly what injects such intensity into the fruit. Jasmine, lemon zest, apricot stone and tangerine tastiness slices through this wine and leaves a crispy, cleansing impression on the finish”
The primary grape variety nested on this land is “Viognier” (pronounced Vee – on – yay), an ancient white grape variety from the Rhone Valley in France, creating a wine with natural aromatic notes of honeysuckle, peach, pear or apricot finished with delicate floral notes adding to its smoothness
This viognier is grown using organic principles. No use of harmful sprays or pesticides and the vineyard has adopted “dry farming” practices, as we believe water is a precious resource, relying only on our natural rainfall to grow our grapes. Piwakawaka viognier is available in limited quantities.
We rely only on rain for watering. Not only is dry farming environmentally responsible, it yields more intensely flavoured grapes.
